Watch Yo’ Mouth!

You ever feel like saying what’s on your mind? I mean EXACTLY what you are thinking when you think it? Yep…me too! My husband tells me I am not like the rest of the world. He said my brain thinks differently than everyone else. Ha! Can you believe it? He’s talking about my over analytical, over logical, over reacting, brain. Sometimes I feel like he’s right. But sometimes I think (there I am thinking again), forget it! I’m going to say exactly what’s on my mind without regard to what other people think. Here’s the problem with that…the God in me will not let me. There’s always a still small voice telling me “watch your mouth”.

Proverbs 12:18 says “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing“. Our tongues can really cut through the heart with our words. But that’s not what we are called to do. We should aim to draw people with kind words that build up and encourage.

As a mother, I take a lot of pride and care in what I teach my children. And I honestly believe children do what we do and not what we say do. You ever hear a child say something and think to yourself he sounds just like his mom, or she sounds just like her dad? That’s because they’re watching and they’re mimicking what their parents do.

Mom’s have a special responsibility to her children to teach, build up, encourage, love, nourish, guide and discipline her children. Too bring healing to her children. Now, you may think that’s too much! But let me encourage you, it’s what we’re called to do. God gives us grace to complete each one of our tasks. Our job is to go to him daily and keep these responsibilities before him in prayer so that we will have the strength to carry them out.

We can’t go wrong when we go to God in prayer. We receive a double portion of blessings because not only are we receiving grace to raise our babies but we’re also being filled with Word to replace the rash words we want to say that will wound the people around us.

Sword thrusts is what the Bible calls them. I wouldn’t want anyone harming my children and I definitely don’t want to be the one to bring resentment in their hearts by saying what I want to say, when I want to say it so pray for me and I’ll pray for you to Watch Yo Mouth!
